National Day of Solidarity

On Friday 6th March GAP will be participating in the 1 in 9 National Day of Solidarity. We'll be hosting a protest outside the High Court in Solidarity with Buyisiwe's case.

On 2 October 2005, Buyisiwe was gang raped in Tembisa. Buyisiwe immediately reported the matter to the police and underwent a medico-legal examination. The accused were arrested and bail was denied. Due to ‘administrative problems' certain documents went ‘missing' from the docket resulting in the matter being struck from the court roll. The accused were released and have since that time been out on bail. Due to community, family, and campaign pressure, the matter was finally reinstated last year. Despite numerous court dates since then, the state has yet to close its case.

Her case has finally been taken up again and is currently underway.

Friday is the day selected by the 1 in 9 Campaign to show Solidarity with Buyisiwe nation-wide.

Anyone interested in participating by being chained to the High Court please email: ru.the.gap@gmail.com.

There are slots available from 07h45 - 17h00 - these slots are concurrent with your timetable.

If you dont want to be chained to the High Court but want to show solidarity please come to the High Court and show your support. Also feel free to write a letter of solidarity to Buyisiwe - materials will be provided at the High Court for this.
